Quick Tips And Helpful Hints For PC Users

>
Tired of rebooting your computer? There is a way that you can restart your Windows program without shutting down your computer. Simply click start and then click shut down. Now hold down the Shift key on your keyboard while pressing OK in the Shut Down box. This will restart Windows without shutting your computer down. This trick will work for Windows 95 and 98.

> This is for Windows XP users. Whenever a program crashes in Windows XP, a window appears, prompting you to send a report to Microsoft. You can stop Windows XP from asking if you want to send a report to Microsoft by doing the following: Click on Start then Control Panel. Double-click on System in the Control Panel. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Error Reporting. You can completely disable error reporting here, or enable it for certain programs. Click OK when you're finished.

> This is for all versions of Windows. Have you ever lost your Taskbar? This is the bar at the bottom of your screen with the Start button on it. If you lose your Taskbar and wish to get it back, follow these simple steps: Move your mouse to the bottom of the screen until the mouse cursor looks like you're about to resize something ( you will see a verticle black arrow). Click and hold your left mouse button down and stretch the Taskbar up, so that you can see it again.

Points To Ponder

Why are there flotation devices under plane seats instead of parachutes?

Have you ever imagined a world with no hypothetical situations?

If 7-11 is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, why are there locks on the doors?

If nothing ever sticks to Teflon, how do they make Teflon stick to the pan?

If you tied buttered toast to the back of a cat and dropped it from a height, what would happen?

Why is it that when you're driving and looking for an address, you turn down the volume on the radio?

Resetting Your DSL Modem

If you have DSL with us you probably already know that from time to time your DSL modem may need to be reset if your DSL stops working unexpectedly. Here are the steps to do that if you need to troubleshoot your modem.

1. First, try removing the power from the back of the modem, count to 10, and plug the power back in; then, reopen the webpage and see if it is working.

2. If step 1 does not work, you will probably have to reset it. There should be a reset button on the bottom of the modem; you will need an ink pen or a paper-clip to be able to reach the button itself because it is actually within the modem. Hold the modem upside-down with the row of lights facing you and hold down the reset button until the power light turns red and then let go.

3. After all of the lights are back to solid green on the modem (they might be blinking a little) open Internet Explorer and wait until it shows the 'page cannot be displayed' screen. Then, remove whatever is in the address line and type in the following: 192.168.254.254 and click Enter on the keyboard.

4. You should now be on a Speedstream page. You should see a blank for User Name, New Password, and Confirm New Password. 'admin' will already be in the User Name blank and you will need to type 'admin' in both of the password blanks; then you will need to click the circle in front of "Do not require admin login" and then click the Save Settings button. This will lead to another screen with blanks for Username and Password; this is where you type in your username and password for DSL. The username will consist of whatever you chose for your username folowed by "@frontiernet.net" and the password will just be whatever you chose as the password. Then click the box in front of Save Settings to put a check mark in it and click the Connect or Save Settings button. This should lead you to a System Summary page and if the information under Point to Point Connection Summary is colored green then you are connected and ready to use the internet. You might have to click the Connect button more than once sometimes; you might get a message about the far end being busy and if you do, you should keep clicking Connect until you get the System Summary page.

5.) If these steps don't get you connected, please be sure to call our Technical Support Team at 1-888-605-9322.
